I have been teaching and doing research in Geophysics at Queen's since 1986. I am principally a theoretical seismologist and the main theme in my work is the use of analytical and numerical approaches to understand the fascinating interactions of seismic waves with complex, multiscale Earth structures. I also have interests in using data from earthquake sources to discern the deep structure of Canada, which has led to collaborations on projects with Lithoprobe, POLARIS and POLO (see research links in left margin). My theoretical work is highly relevant to the seismic exploration industry and I have been fortunate enough to spend several periods of time at a lab of one of the two largest geophysical service companies.

In working with graduate students my goals are to pursue interesting, novel applications from the resource/exploration to the global scales. These projects can be very applied or very basic-science oriented, and they can be suited to people with a Geophysics, Physics, Geological Engineering or a broader Earth Science background.
