Jean Hutchinson joined the Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering at Queen's University in 2001, following previous experience in a variety of positions in research, teaching, engineering and consulting. Dr. Hutchinson is a graduate of programs in Geological Engineering (1984, B.A.Sc. University of Toronto) and Civil Engineering (1988, M.A.Sc. University of Alberta; 1992, Ph.D. University of Toronto).
Professor Hutchinson's research interests include:
  • Landslide Stability Assessment, Monitoring and Remediation
  • Geotechnical Monitoring Input to GIS Based Slope Stability Decision Support Systems (with R. Harrap, Queen's)
  • Crown Pillar and Ground Subsidence Assessment and Remediation
  • Risk Assessment and Management for GeoHazards
  • Application of Geophysics to Void Detection (with Dr. G. Cascante, Dept. of Civil Engineering, University of Waterloo)
  • Cablebolt Design and Verification (with Dr. M. Diederichs, Queen's)
  • Rock Support Design
  • Design and Performance of Artificially Frozen Soil Structures
