Guy Narbonne
has been named to the
Royal Society of Canada
for his research on the origin and early evolution of animals.





Former Queen's PhD student Kyle Larson won the Jack Henderson Prize for Best Thesis - Best PhD Thesis from the Geological Association of Canada. Former MSc Student Paige Snelling won the Award for Best Student Geophysical Presentation.

Vicki Remenda received the OUSA Teaching Award (as reported in the Gazette in recognition of her work with Inquiry at Queens




Grad student Stephanie Fekete has won the 2010 Eisenstein Memorial Award for Research, for her work on ground hazard assessment in tunnels using Lidar.
The award will be presented by the Tunnelling Association of Canada at the ITA World Tunneling Congress in Vancouver.

Guy Narbonne has been awarded the
Billings Medal
presented by GAC for outstanding lifetime contribution to Canadian paleontology.
The medal will be awarded at the 2009 Canadian Paleontology Conference.




Dr. Ray Price
was honoured with an honourary LL.D. from the University of Calgary. He received his honours during the convocation ceremonies.

Dan Layton-Mathews,
Heather Jamieson
and Kurt Kyser
have been awarded a major
CFI grant and associated funds to purchase a new
Microprobe, Environmental SEM and a cutting-edge
stable mass spectometer.
The grant totals approximately $5 Million.




Mark Diederichs has been awarded an
NSERC DAS Award
for his work on geomechanics challenges related to deep underground repositories for spent nuclear fuel.

Noel James is this year's recipient of the prestigious Logan Medal from the Geological Association of Canada. This is the highest award of the society, recognizes him for a lifetime of scientific achievements, mentorship of graduate students, and profoundly important discoveries.



Dr. Jean Hutchinson has been awarded the Golden Apple Teaching Award for 2009 from the Queen's Engineering Society.

NASA Astronaut
Andrew Feustel,
a former Queen's PhD student (supervised by
H. Helmstaedt and
P. Young), recently completed a
Space Shuttle Mission
to perform final upgrades to the Hubble Space Telescope.
